Community Guidelines

These rules exist for one reason: people write things here they have not said anywhere else. Intense pain and anger are understandable and welcome. They do not excuse treating another member badly.

What is never allowed

Respectful disagreement is welcome, including disagreement about reconciliation. Everything in this list is not.

  • Threats, violence, or encouragement of violence
  • Harassment, intimidation, personal attacks, and bullying
  • Hate speech or dehumanising language of any kind
  • Posting another person's private information
  • Naming or identifying an alleged affair partner or any uninvolved third party
  • Doxxing, stalking, or illegal surveillance
  • Hacking, impersonation, or unauthorised access to accounts or devices
  • Explicit sexual content
  • Spam or repetitive promotion
  • Commercial solicitation without written permission
  • Manipulative fundraising or appeals for money
  • Fraudulent claims of professional qualification
  • Encouragement of self-harm
  • Pressure or shame aimed at members for reconciling, separating, divorcing, or remaining undecided
  • Republishing another member's story outside the community without their explicit permission

Urgent situations

Some posts need more than a moderation decision. Content involving self-harm, domestic violence, child safety, criminal activity, or immediate danger is escalated to a senior moderator straight away. We respond by displaying crisis and emergency resources, contacting the member privately where appropriate, and preserving or removing material as safety requires.

What we cannot do is intervene in an emergency. Nobody monitors this site around the clock, and a post may not be read for hours. If someone is in danger now, contact emergency services or a crisis line in your country instead of posting.

Safety and crisis resources
  • Immediate danger, injury, or a threat to life: call your local emergency number without delay.
  • Thoughts of suicide or self-harm: contact a suicide-prevention or crisis line operating in your country, or go to your nearest emergency department.
  • Domestic abuse, coercive control, or fear of a partner: contact a domestic-abuse helpline in your country, which can advise on safety planning confidentially.
  • Concern for a child's safety: contact your local child-protection service or the police.
  • Non-urgent but serious concern about a member here: use the contact form and choose “Report a safety concern”.

How moderation works

Moderators and administrators hold role-based permissions and act under one published process. Members normally receive a clear reason for any action, unless explaining it would create a safety, security, or privacy risk for someone.

  1. 1

    Informal reminder

A short private note pointing to the guideline in question. Most situations end here.

  2. 2

    Formal warning

Recorded on the account, with the specific guideline and the change we need to see.

  3. 3

    Temporary feature restriction

Posting, messaging, or a particular forum is paused for a defined period.

  4. 4

    Temporary suspension

Account access is paused. The reason and duration are given unless doing so creates a risk.

  5. 5

    Permanent removal

Reserved for serious or repeated harm. Appeals are reviewed by a second moderator.

What authorised staff can do

  • Review member reports and reported private messages under the published policy
  • Remove or edit prohibited material while preserving an audit record
  • Add moderator explanations to discussions and record private moderation notes
  • Issue reminders and warnings, restrict features, suspend or remove accounts
  • Review relevant account history and restrict access to sensitive forums
  • Detect and manage spam and duplicate accounts
  • Manage member appeals and publish community announcements
  • Manage forum categories and Recovery Library content
  • View a full audit trail of administrative actions

Every one of these actions is written to an audit trail that administrators can review. To appeal a decision, use the contact form and choose “Account assistance”; a second moderator reviews the case.

Policies and legal information

The following are working drafts written for this community. They must be reviewed by an appropriately qualified attorney and checked against the website's actual practices before public use. Having a policy page does not establish legal compliance. These drafts are not legal advice.

Before publishing: owner review required

Replace every bracketed placeholder below, and confirm each unverified operational claim against how the site actually works, before this page goes live.

Placeholders to replace

  • [SITE OPERATOR LEGAL NAME] — the site's registered legal entity name
  • [PRIVACY CONTACT EMAIL] — the inbox that will handle policy and privacy requests
  • [STATE AND COUNTY] — the governing-law jurisdiction for disputes

Claims to verify first

  • How account passwords are actually stored and secured
  • Whether and how private messages are reviewed during safety investigations
  • Whether access to reported content is logged, and how
  • Whether closing an account or deleting a post actually removes the underlying data, and on what timeline
  • Whether a DMCA agent has been designated and registered with the U.S. Copyright Office

Terms of Use

By accessing or using SupportAfterInfidelity.com, including creating an account or submitting content, you agree to follow these Terms and the Community Guidelines, to the extent permitted by law. If you do not agree, do not use the site. The site should provide a clear way to review these terms before account creation or posting.

Who May Use the Site

Accounts are for people aged 18 or older. The site is intended for adult peer support. Do not create an account for a child or submit a child's personal information. We may restrict or close an account when we reasonably believe the account does not meet these requirements.

Your Account

You are responsible for activity conducted through your account and for keeping your sign-in details secure. Use a screen name that does not reveal information you want kept private. Notify us promptly if you believe someone has accessed your account without permission. Do not share your password or use another person's account without authorization.

Public Posts and Private Messages

Treat discussions, comments, profiles, videos, audio, and other submitted material as potentially viewable, copied, or shared by other people. A private-message feature is not a promise of absolute confidentiality. Access to private messages may depend on the site's technical systems, service providers, safety investigations, and legal obligations. Do not post information that would put you at risk if it became known.

Privacy and Information

The site may handle information you provide or generate through use of the service, such as account details, posts, comments, messages, uploaded media, and technical information. The exact information collected, how it is used, which service providers receive it, and how long it is kept must be described in a separate Privacy Policy that matches the site's actual practices. Do not submit sensitive information unless you accept the risks of sharing it online.

Security

We use reasonable measures intended to protect information handled by the site. No website, account, device, transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. We cannot promise that unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure will never occur. Please use a unique password and avoid including identifying or highly sensitive details in public content.

Peer Support Only

SupportAfterInfidelity.com is a peer-support community. It is not a medical, mental-health, counseling, legal, financial, or crisis-response service. Community members are not necessarily trained or licensed professionals. Content on the site is general peer discussion, not a professional assessment or individualized advice.

Emergencies and Immediate Safety

The site is not monitored as an emergency service, and messages or reports may not be seen promptly. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. In the United States, call or text 988 for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Do not rely on this website to obtain urgent help.

Respectful Conduct

Treat other members with dignity, even when you disagree. Do not harass, threaten, intimidate, shame, stalk, or repeatedly target another person. Do not use the site to inflame conflict, pressure someone to disclose personal details, or interfere with another member's recovery.

Content That Is Not Allowed

Do not post threats, unlawful material, graphic or exploitative content, malware, spam, deceptive promotions, or material that violates another person's rights. Do not post content that encourages self-harm, violence, abuse, or dangerous conduct. We may restrict or remove content that appears unsafe, harmful, unlawful, or inconsistent with the purpose of the site.

Names and Identifying Information

Do not publish another person's home address, telephone number, private email, workplace, financial information, account credentials, or other identifying details without proper authorization. Be careful about posting your own identifying information. A screen name does not make a post anonymous if its details identify you or another person.

No Impersonation or False Identity

Do not impersonate another person, falsely claim professional qualifications, or misrepresent your connection to a person, organization, or event. Do not use another member's identity or content to mislead, harass, or cause harm.

No Unwanted Solicitation

Do not use the site to solicit money, promote products or services, recruit members to another organization, or send unwanted commercial messages without the site operator's written permission. We may remove promotional material and restrict accounts used for repeated solicitation.

Your Content

You retain any ownership rights you have in content you create and submit. You are responsible for making sure you have the rights and permissions needed to post it. Do not upload another person's writing, image, recording, or private communication unless you have permission or another lawful basis to do so.

Permission to Display Submitted Content

When you submit content, you give [SITE OPERATOR LEGAL NAME] a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to host, store, reproduce, format, display, and distribute that content as reasonably needed to operate, maintain, moderate, and promote the site and the specific community features where you chose to submit it. This permission includes the use of service providers needed to operate those features. It does not transfer ownership of your content to us.

Your Responsibility for Uploaded Media

Before uploading a photograph, video, audio recording, screenshot, or document, make sure you have the necessary rights and consent. Do not publish another person's private communication or identifiable image or voice without permission, except where legally permitted. You are responsible for considering whether an upload could reveal your identity or someone else's identity.

Moderation and Removal

We may review, limit, hide, remove, or preserve content and may restrict, suspend, or close accounts when we believe action is reasonably necessary to protect members, enforce these rules, respond to a report, address a legal concern, or operate the site. We are not required to provide advance notice or an explanation in every case. Any review or action may take time.

Reports and Safety Concerns

Members may report content or conduct through the reporting method provided on the site. A report is a request for review, not a guarantee that content will be removed or that a particular action will be taken. Do not use reporting tools to target, threaten, or silence someone for a good-faith disagreement.

No Guarantee of Monitoring

We do not promise to monitor every post, message, upload, account, or interaction. Content may remain visible for a period before it is reviewed or acted upon. Members should use the available reporting tools and should not assume the site has seen or approved any particular content.

Interactions Between Members

You are responsible for deciding whether and how to communicate with other members. We do not control every member's statements or conduct and cannot guarantee that a member's identity, story, intentions, or advice are accurate. Use caution when sharing personal details or moving a conversation off the site.

Third-Party Services and Links

The site may contain links to third-party websites or use third-party tools. Those services are operated by others and may have separate terms and privacy practices. We do not control or guarantee their content, availability, security, or practices. Review their policies before using them.

Changes and Availability

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the site, including features, content, or access, with or without notice where permitted by law. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device.

No Warranties

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the site will meet every user's needs, that information is complete or accurate, or that use of the site will produce a particular result. Nothing in this section removes rights that cannot legally be waived.

Limits on Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, [SITE OPERATOR LEGAL NAME] and the people and service providers involved in operating the site will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, goodwill, or opportunities arising from use of or inability to use the site. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where applicable law does not allow that limitation.

Your Responsibility for Claims Caused by Your Conduct

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to be responsible for claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your violation of these Terms, your unlawful conduct, or your infringement of another person's rights. This section does not require you to accept responsibility for claims caused by the site operator's own conduct where the law prohibits that result.

Account Closure and Content Removal

You may stop using the site and may request account closure using the method provided on the site. Closing an account or deleting a post may not remove copies already viewed, downloaded, quoted, or shared by others. Some information may remain in backups or records for a limited period, or may be retained when required for safety, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. The exact process and retention periods must match the site's actual systems and Privacy Policy.

Updates, Governing Law, and Contact

We may update these Terms as the site changes. The revised version will show its effective date, and continued use after an update will have the effect provided by applicable law. These Terms are governed by the laws of [STATE AND COUNTY], except where another law applies or a user's legal rights cannot be limited. For policy questions or privacy requests, contact [PRIVACY CONTACT EMAIL]. Do not publish this card until the placeholders are replaced and the appropriate attorney has reviewed the governing-law and dispute language.
